Strictly’s Rose Ayling-Ellis wows in sleek black gown on BAFTA red carpet alongside Giovanni

Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice looked incredibly stylish as they arrived together at the TV BAFTAs on Sunday 8 May.

Rose, 27, looked flawless in a flowing sleeveless black dress, with her hair chicly tied back, tendrils framing her face.

Strictly Come Dancing professional Giovanni, 31, looked classically dapper in a black tuxedo, waistcoat and bow tie.

The couple, who won the 2021 series of Strictly, have been nominated in the Must See Moment category.

The category is the only one that is voted for by the public, with Rose and Giovanni's landmark dance routine being up for the gong.

Rose was the series' first ever deaf contestant, and the routine was an unforgettable moment. As the pair performed a contemporary routine to Clean Bandit’s hit song Symphony, the music faded to silence, giving the audience an insight into what it's like to be deaf.

Speaking on the red carpet to Made in Chelsea 's Sam Thompson, the pair reflected on such a special moment.

"I feel so privileged to be nominated because it's a public vote, it's a TV moment, and the dance we did together was such a special dance," said Rose.

"It's not just a dance. It's created so much more. It's influenced the BSL interpreter law that was passed recently and it increased people signing up to learn sign language by 4000%."

Giovanni was also incredibly proud to be nominated for the stand-out moment, which he helped choreograph.

Asked why the moment resonated with audiences, he answered: "I think it's because we all understood what Rose was going through every single week. I think we raised awareness for the deaf community as well.

"I think it was important for us to all understand that 10 second silence, and what does that mean? I think that's why it was so powerful."

Following their journey on the show, the couple revealed they are still good friends and keep in touch.

"We always talk. You spend six months together, we'd be stupid not to stop talking, and she's a good friend," Giovanni said.

Rose agreed: "After what we went through… best friends."

The other nominees for the Must See Moment award included Ant and Dec's 'Good Evening Prime Minister' jibes on I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, and An Audience with Adele, when the singer was surprised with the English teacher who inspired her as a child.

Rose also spoke about another landmark moment in television: she will be the first celebrity to sign a CBeebies Bedtime Story in British Sign Language.

"I'm so excited to do that because it's never been done fully in BSL before, so it's nice that the deaf children can be part of bedtime stories," she said on the red carpet.

Leading the nominations is Russell T Davies' powerful Channel 4 drama It's A Sin with 11 nods, including writer drama category, leading actor — Olly Alexander for his role as Ritchie Tozer and leading actress — Lydia West for her role as Jill Baxter.
