Steve Wilkos wants to help Jussie Smollett clear his name.
Wilkos, 55, would like to give Smollett a lie detector test on his eponymous talk show.
“When this first went down, I said, ‘Man, that case is bulls–t man!’” Wilkos told “The Breakfast Club” radio show on Friday. “It just makes no sense. Everybody is so outraged about what’s happening now. But, my thing is, he didn’t kill anybody. He didn’t rob anybody.”
Wilkos used to be an officer in the Chicago Police Department and confirmed that some cases are handled in the same manner – perhaps referring to the charges against the “Empire” star being dropped.
“He’s high profile, but if he was Joe Shmuckatalie, no one would care about it,” he said.
Although Smollett maintains his innocence, Wilkos is unsure of it all. He has an idea how Smollett can put this all behind him once and for all.
“Come on my show and take a lie detector test, whether you set this up,” he offered.
Elsewhere in the interview, Wilkos talked about his 2018 DUI arrest. He has since stopped drinking completely.
“Not after that DUI, that put a kibosh on [drinking],” he said. Wilkos said he went to 10 court-mandated classes and had a breathalyzer installed on his car for some time.
The case is now done and erased from his record.
He says the entire situation was embarrassing and was tough for his kids to witness.
