Ryan Adams Apologizes After Joking He Was High on Painkillers at Wedding to Mandy Moore

The musician tweets after his ex says she didn’t “choose the right person” when they tied the knot.

Musician and Mandy Moore’s ex-husband Ryan Adams found himself apologizing on Twitter Thursday night, after a comment he made about their wedding back in 2009 went viral.

It all began with an interview Moore gave Glamour, where the "This Is Us" star said their marriage was "not the smartest decision."

"I didn’t choose the right person," she said of her first marriage. Moore added she felt "spiritually and fundamentally stuck" before they eventually divorced.

"I don’t feel guilty for it. I don’t fault myself for it," she continued. "When people said, ‘I’m sorry,’ I was like, ‘No. Sorry would have been had I stayed in a very unhealthy situation.’ I didn’t. I found my way out. And when I did, things opened back up again."

Adams caught wind of the interview when Perez Hilton posted about it. Retweeting the Perez article on Wednesday, the musician wrote, "She didn’t like the Melvins or BladeRunner. Doomed from the start… If only I could remember the start lol."

"When someone told me we got married I thought they were joking," he continued. "Then I realized how many painkillers I was taking. Honestly there weren’t enough to numb the shock. Gollygooops."

He eventually deleted the second post, and apologized for his words in another Twitter message on Thursday night.

"I apologize for my remarks. I was trying to be funny. But I have and will always choose to remember the amazing moments," said Adams. "It isn’t classy or ok lessen what was. I am happy for everyone and doing my best."

Moore is currently engaged to Taylor Goldsmith, the front man of Dawes, and the two plan to tie the knot later this year.
