Pep Guardiola has claimed Bernardo Silva is the one player guaranteed to start for Manchester City after his ‘masterpiece’ in the win over Chelsea.
Silva shone in a deeper role in the 2-0 win to secure the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium.
Guardiola was so impressed that he described the Portuguese’s display as a ‘masterpiece’ and added that his level is above everybody else in his squad.
“Right now it’s Bernardo and 10 more, but it’s about what you do over the season," Guardiola claimed. "In this moment Bernardo is far above the other guys.
"Today the performance [of Bernardo] was a masterpiece."
City missed out to Chelsea in the race to sign Jorginho, but Guardiola played John Stones in midfield towards the end of Sunday’s game, suggesting he is prepared to not sign another midfielder before Thursday’s deadline.
“If no other player arrives I have to find a solution and maybe he [Stones] can play there," Guardiola admitted.
“We would like to find maybe one more because we don’t have players to substitute Fernandinho, but if he doesn’t come then we will stay as we are. I don’t know [if we are close]. In four or five days we will know it.”
