BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty was cheekily called out by her colleague and journalist Nick Hatfield during a live broadcast on BBC Radio 5Live yesterday. The presenter had just wrapped up an interview with Kenya’s marathon legend and world record holder Eliud Kipchoge.
The long-distance runner wowed the world by becoming the first human in history to run a marathon in under two hours in 2019.
This historic event birthed the inspiring documentary feature Kipchoge: The Last Milestone that is now streaming on Showmax.
Naga admitted the interview had left her somewhat starstruck as she discussed the moment with BBC journalist Nick.
“I’ve just spoken to the legend Eluid Kipchoge,” gushed Naga to her colleague, before adding: “How lucky am I?”
Nick commented: “Were you a bit blown away by that?”
Naga admitted it was a dream to get the opportunity to speak with the Kenyan-born long-distance runner.
Nick went on: “I’ll tell you what, he’s got some competition after I ran 10k in 57 minutes the other day.”
A quizzical Naga asked her colleague to reiterate, as she stated: “Competition for what?”
“Competition for running,” Nick confirmed, before letting out a chuckle.
Naga quizzed: “Are you sure?”
He then joked he could possibly beat Kipchoge if he bought himself a “motorbike”.
The Radio 5Live host did not appear convinced by her co-star’s admission that he could beat the long-distance runner.

She said: “10k… is 6.1 miles. In 57 minutes he would have done 13 miles.”
Nick cheekily scolded: “Alright Naga. Don’t embarrass me.”
Following their cheeky back and forth, the 5Live host swiftly moved the discussion on.
The BBC Breakfast host is not only known for her presenting skills but also for her running prowess.
The avid runner recently shared a sweaty selfie with her followers – and revealed that the secret to her running success is compression leggings.
The presenter snapped a fresh-faced picture while she was still glistening with sweat after her 6km run, and alongside the image, she disclosed that she had tried out some new workout gear to assist with her activity.
She captioned the selfie: “Managed to catch some sun for the Saturday run. Treated myself to some compression running leggings too – meant no calf muscle twinges today. Feeling grateful.”
Naga Munchetty on BBC Radio 5Live airs Mon-Wed from 10am.
