Movies this week: Pihu and Mohalla Aisi

Last week’s release Thugs of Hindostan got a huge opening but it looks like sustaining the initial success will be a tough task for the film. This week, we have Pihu and Mohalla Assi. Directed by Vinod Kapri, Pihu stars Myra Vishwakarma in the lead. The trailer has created quite a buzz due to its scary quotient. It is the story of a two-year-old who gets trapped in a home with what presumably is her dead mother. After scenes of the tiny tot playing with balloons and so on, she is left to fend for herself. The little one lights up the gas stove and electric short circuits happen around her. The scariest scene is when she stands on the balcony railing. It is produced by Ronnie Screvwala and Siddharth Roy Kapur.

Film: Mohalla Assi
Director: Chandra Prakash Dwivedi
Star cast: Sunny Deol, Sakshi Tanwar and Ravi Kishen
It is an extremely delayed release for the film, which is a satire on the commercialisation of Varanasi. There was a stay order on the film as people alleged that it hurt religious sentiments. In the film, Sunny Deol plays an orthodox priest and Sanskrit teacher while Sakshi is his wife. The film also traces events of 1989-1990 like the Ram Janmabhoomi event and Mandal Commission. Dwivedi is known for his works like Pinjar and Chanakya but it remains to be seen if the film stays relevant.
