Maya Jama ‘in shape and ready’ as she shares winter Love Island series prep

Love Island’s new host Maya Jama is gearing up for her hosting debut as she tells fans that she’s “in shape and ready.”

Maya, who recently attended the Celebrity Juice wrap party alongside Holly Willoughby and Emily Atack, took to Instagram on Sunday, where fans were treated to a behind-the-scenes look at her workout.

The candid shot was initially posted by her personal trainer, Warren Whitely, who is training the TV presenter before her Love Island debut next year.

"I GOT A MESSAGE," he wrote to his fans alongside an island emoji. "Love Island, your new host is in shape and ready."

Maya, who reposted the snap to her own story, can be seen flexing her bicep while dressed in head-to-toe black athletic gear.

The show’s former host, Laura Whitmore, announced her exit in August and told fans the decision was incredibly “difficult.”

"Some news! I won’t be hosting the next series of Love Island,” she wrote.

"There are certain elements of the show I’ve found very difficult that cannot be changed some due to the format, including the flying back and forth to South Africa along with my new conflicting projects."

Maya revealed that she was taking over in a cheeky Instagram video that featured an iconic Love Island water bottle with her own name on it.

“Okay, the rumours are true,” the post was captioned. “Say hey to your brand-new #LoveIsland host @mayajama!”

Responding to the video, Laura wrote: “Yes girl!! So delighted for you! You’re gonna be fab”, followed by a heart emoji.

In an official statement, Maya added: “I’ve always been such a massive Love Island fan and I’m so excited to be hosting one of the nation’s favourite shows! I can’t wait to get into the Villa to meet all of the Islanders.”

Paul Mortimer, the Director of ITV Reality Programming and Acquisitions and Controller, added: “Finding a new host to follow the wonderful Laura Whitmore was never going to be easy. In Maya Jama though, we have another high profile fan of the show who’ll be a great addition to the Love Island family."

The hosting gig also produced an awkward moment after former winner Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, who is still with her on-screen boyfriend Davide Sanclimenti, claimed she was offered the job.

"I did get offered. I would've loved to do it, but I can't at the minute because of how busy I am,” the Dancing on Ice hopeful told PopSugar.

"And I said I'm not ready for it . . . I want proper training. I've done presenting before, but not to the level of Laura [Whitmore]."

"Maya was the first choice for host," a source later told OK, with Maya herself liking a similar story on Twitter.
