Martin Clunes, 59, invited one of his young fans to come and watch the filming of the final series of Doc Martin next year. This comes as youngster Aaron Hunter, 10, won the Child of Courage award at this year’s Pride of Scotland ceremony.

Aaron was announced as the winner of the prestigious award earlier this month.

The youngster from Falkirk has been battling for survival since he was born.

Born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, he only had half a heart and underwent his first surgery just after he was birth.

His parents were told he was unlikely to survive after he suffered a stroke aged three.

However, he received a new lease of life after being the world’s first child recipient of a heart in a box transport.

As a fan of Doc Martin, Aaron received a personalised message from the star of the show.

Martin shared an emotional speech to congratulate the young boy.

He said: “Hi Aaron, it’s Doc Martin Clunes here.

“I just want to congratulate you on winning a Pride of Scotland award, you really are a superstar.

“I can’t believe with all the doctors you’ve seen in your life, you like watching another one on the tele.

“But I’m glad that you do!”

Martin then extended an invite for Aaron to come down and watch the filming of the show’s final series.

He continued: “Why don’t you pop down to Cornwall and come and see us next year when we’re shooting the last series.

“I’d love to have you as my guest and show you around and see you.

“Well done mate, you really are a star.”

There are plenty of winners who will be honoured at the event, which will be broadcast tonight.

Landing the Lifetime Achievement award is Sir Godfrey Palmer, 81 who has been a powerful voice for the Black Lives Matter movement.

While the Men’s Scotland Football Team will be honoured with the People’s Award.

Among other stars sending messages to the lucky winners were Gordon Ramsay, Dame Arlene Phillips, Lorraine Kelly and Cliff Richard.

The Pride of Scotland ceremony is hosted by GB News presenter Kirsty Gallacher and broadcaster Nicky Campbell.

The Daily Record Pride of Scotland Awards, in partnership with TSB, will be broadcast on STV on 27th July at 8pm and available on STV Player.
