Makers of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Zero respond to the complaint filed against the film for hurting Sikh sentiments- read statement

Days after the trailer released, Shah Rukh Khan starrer Zero landed in the legal soup as a Sikh community took offence against the wrong depiction of Kripan in the film. The community registered a criminal complaint against SRK and director Aanand L Rai for hurting Sikh religious sentiments. They stated that one of the posters of Zero had Shah Rukh wearing a Gatra Kirpan as an ordinary dagger. They also mentioned that SRK was not wearing a Kirpan but a dagger popularly known as Katar in the Indian subcontinent. And, now the makers of Zero have issued a statement which states no visual/image in the film depicts Kirpan.

On Monday, a member of the community had called out the makers by sharing the poster of the film on his social media handle. He had warned the makers by writing, “Shame on Shahrukh Khan on devaluing Sikh Kakar and hurting Sikh sentiments by showing Kirpaan as a show-off ordinary dagger. Kirpaan can only be worn by a #Khalsa – a pure Human being. I demand Shahrukh Khan & Zero film producer Gauri Khan to immediately withdraw this poster #Zero. We would be forced to take legal action against Zero film team if this poster and promotion are not withdrawn.”

Produced by Gauri Khan under Red Chillies Entertainment and Colour Yellow Productions, Zero featuring Katrina Kaif, SRK and Anushka Sharma, is all set to hit the silver screens on December 21, 2018.
