Liam Llewellyn’s rugby player father has appeared to spark a playful feud with Gemma Owen’s famous footballer dad, after the dressage champion’s “bad attitude” towards his son.
While David Llewellyn has much in common with Michael Owen, being a former sports player himself, the ex Wales International Rugby Union star teased that there might be some tension between them when they meet for the first time.
His remarks came in response to fans claiming Love Island contestant Gemma, 19, was “rude” to his son Liam, 22, in the first few episodes of the new Love Island series.
When asked what he’d say to Michael about the villa drama, David jokingly said: “He's a footballer, I'm a rugby player, I hope he doesn't fall over when I shake his hand."
Liam and Gemma got off to an awkward start on the ITV dating series after being coupled up by the public, as the horse rider hasn’t shown much interest in the Masters graduate despite his obvious affection for her.
Their relationship has become even more strained since Gemma was re-coupled with Italian Islander Davide Sanclimenti, whom she has admitted to being most attracted to in the villa.
Liam's dad David praised his son for how he’s handled being on the show so far, as he continued: "It's just a privilege to see him on there. He's such a charming young man.
"He's just a gem. He's such a kind-hearted soul. He'd light up any room in the world. Whether he wins or not he's a true gentleman and he's coming across lovely, he's a top young man."
The proud dad’s comments come after Love Island fans were left feeling sorry for Liam when Gemma addressed that fact she doesn't fancy him.
It was suggested that the riding competitor was not interested in Liam in the first episode, as he turned her off by asking if she knew what his degree was about.
When Liam asked if she knew what 'strength and conditioning' was, Gemma responded: "Don't be a d***."
"No I'm not playing that stupid game," she added.
Liam is currently single on the island after Davide stole Gemma from him.
"I decided to couple up with this girl because there's not just attraction,” Davide said at the fire pit.
“I mean, yes, she is a stunning girl, but I felt we really have a good time and I would like to know her more."
However, his luck might be about to change as tonight's episode will see two brand new female bombshells arrive in the all new Love Island villa.
