Khalid debuted his new song “New Normal” on Sunday, July 11, during space exploration company Virgin Galactic’s spaceflight launch at Spaceport America in New Mexico.
Khalid premiered “New Normal” during a livestream broadcast of the historic space trip taken by Virgin Galactic founder Richard Branson. The singer also performed two other tracks “Better” and “Talk” in front of the small crowd at the spaceport. He was introduced by Stephen Colbert, who served as the host for the Unity 22 livestream.
“It seems surreal. I think that’s kind of how we all feel about the times right now. But it’s true, it’s our new normal. We’re going to have to get used to it, because we’re going to see a lot more to come,” the singer said, when asked about his view about the space trip.
Khalid also said that he needs to gain “confidence” to visit space someday.
British billionaire Richard Branson along with five other people took a brief successful flight into space on Sunday on the Virgin Galactic rocket plane. The company plans to start space tourism as a commercial service in early 2022.
