Kelvin Fletcher’s fans quiz him on Emmerdale return after message to co-star James Hooton

Kelvin Fletcher discusses his role on Death in Paradise

Kelvin Fletcher, who is best known for playing Andy Sudgen in Emmerdale, has taken the opportunity to praise his former co-star James Hooton (who played Sam Dingle) in the soap. The Strictly Come Dancing winner revered the actor for being “committed” to the programme.

James has been a regular face in the ITV soap for over two decades and took to Twitter to thank the Emmerdale cast in a candid tweet on the anniversary of his show debut.

He penned: “26 years ago today I started work @emmerdale on a short term contract guaranteeing me eight episodes!

“26 years later, still here, still loving the show, and still grateful for the opportunities @ITV has given me! #emmerdale #dingles.”

Kelvin reacted to the post as he praised his ex-colleague in a touching response.

In view of his own 275,000 followers, Kelvin wrote: “They are lucky to have such a great actor, committed professional and decent ambassador.”

James replied: “Cheers Fletch!”

It didn’t take long for Kelvin’s fans to react to his message as Emmerdale viewers quizzed him on a possible ITV return.

One social media user asked: “Would you go back and play Andy again?”

Another quizzed: “So when is @kelvin_fletcher going to return to the village? Good to see @MissCharleyWebb back and she isn’t biting her tongue. So maybe now she needs Andy’s help with Sarah. Maybe you should return and help her.”

“Please come back. Sarah needs her dad,” a third person commented.

Kelvin first appeared in Emmerdale in 1996 and left the show after two decades, and has admitted he has no plans to return.

Speaking to host Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford on This Morning, he explained: “20 years is a long time. It’s been an incredible 20 years.

“I am so grateful to Emmerdale. Throughout that period I have always had a real sense of fulfillment and purpose.”

It comes as Kelvin is set to make his acting debut in the BBC drama Death In Paradise.

The Strictly winner recently caused a stir when he didn’t appear in the first episode last week.

Kelvin took to Instagram to inform fans about the situation after receiving “phone calls and messages” from his loved ones and people on social media, who were “excited” to see him make his debut.

He explained that his episode of the BBC show won’t air “until about another two or three weeks”.

Speaking in a video which he shared with his 365,000 followers, the star said: “So I’ve had a few phone calls today and a few messages from friends and family, and even quite a few messages on social media from people excited about my debut on Death in Paradise this evening.

“I’m afraid I’m not on tonight. Still watch it, it starts tonight, 9 o’clock, BBC One, the new series of Death in Paradise.

“A great show, but my episode that I filmed isn’t until about another two or three weeks from now.

“So I’ll be in touch in the next couple of weeks to let you know when that’s on, but I’m not on this evening I’m afraid.”

Death In Paradise airs tomorrow on BBC One at 9pm.
