Kanye West ‘being investigated for criminal battery’ after being accused of ‘punching fan’

Kanye West is reportedly under investigation by police for allegedly punching a fan.

The rapper, 44, is said to be named as a suspect in an investigation into a battery that took place at around 3am on Thursday morning, according to the Fox 11 news channel in LA, who first reported the incident.

Law enforcement has confirmed that the star was involved in some sort of argument in downtown LA, according to the outlet.

The altercation is said to have taken place near to the private members club Soho Warehouse, where the star allegedly pushed and punched a male fan after he asked for an autograph, the station reported.

No arrests were made and LAPD is currently investigating the case, a media relations officer for LAPD confirmed to Rolling Stone.

TMZ has published a video filmed “sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning”, in which the star can be heard yelling, “Did y’all say that or not? Did y’all say that or not? … Cuz that’s what happened right fucking now.”

A law enforcement insider speaking to the publication alleges that the case is being investigated as "misdemeanor battery", a crime that "carries a maximum jail sentence of 6 months".

As previously reported, Kanye West was pictured with new girlfriend Julia Fox leaving a restaurant on Wednesday evening preceding the alleged incident.

The couple went public with their romance last week, with a photoshoot and essay for Interview magazine, where the actress revealed how they first met.

She wrote: "I met Ye in Miami on New Year's Eve, and it was an instant connection.

"His energy is so fun to be around. He had me and my friends laughing, dancing, and smiling all night."

"Ye's flight landed at six, and the play was at seven, and he was there ON TIME.

"I was impressed. After the play, we chose to do dinner at Carbone which is one of my favorite restaurants. Obviously.

"At the restaurant, Ye directed an entire photoshoot for me while people dined! The whole restaurant loved it and cheered us on while it was happening."
