Kangana Ranaut’s historical drama Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi released last Friday and conquered the box office like a winner. The historical period drama, which started on an average note, picked up tremendously due to positive word of mouth, earning a humongous total of Rs 42.55 crore in its opening weekend. With this total, it grabbed the top spot in the list of highest grossers of the last weekend across the country. Apart from beating Thackeray, it has beaten holdover releases like Uri and Tamil biggies Viswasam and Petta as well.
The film showed a growth of more than 100 per cent over the weekend to achieve this feat at the box office. Interestingly, the film was also released in Tamil and Telugu versions for the South audience and it has managed to garner good collections there. Released in over 50 countries, the film has ranked amongst the top 20 in Australia and top 15 in New Zealand over the weekend. Growth-wise, the US, Singapore, the UK and NZ have recorded a worthy increase on Saturday and Sunday compared to their numbers on Friday with 80 per cent, 66 per cent, 55 per cent and 25 per cent growth respectively.
Distributed internationally by Zee Studios International, the film has collected $1.55 million on its release weekend across markets. Produced by Zee Studios in association with Kamal Jain and Nishant Pitti, the movie also features Ankita Lokhande, Atul Kulkarni, Vaibhav Tatwawaadi and Danny Denzongpa.
