Former Hollyoaks star Stephanie Davis has confessed that she felt like she was “thrown to the wolves” after finding fame at a young age.
The 29 year old first rose to prominence back in 2010 at the age of 17 when she appeared on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s BBC musical TV talent show Over The Rainbow.
From this Stephanie landed the part of Sinead O’Connor, a role she stayed in for five years until she was sacked for turning up to the set of Hollyoaks "unfit to work because of alcohol consumption”. She later reprised her role in 2018 before leaving the Channel 4 soap again in September 2019.
And reflecting on her time in entertainment industry, Stephanie, who is mum to Caben Albi, five, exclusively admits to OK! that it's been far from simple.
“Looking back at my life in the public eye, I was so young,” she said.
“I didn’t have strong support and I feel I got thrown to the wolves. It’s not been easy but all along I’ve trusted the journey because if I didn’t go through all that I’d never have had Caben.”
Stephanie shares Caben with Irish model and reality star Jeremy McConnell, who she met on the 2016 series of Celebrity Big Brother.
In the years that follow her drinking spiralled out of control and she was admitted to rehab.
Jeremy was also convicted of attacking Steph in their Merseyside home while she was holding Caben, who was then eight weeks old.
But the star says she thinks she was meant to go through all these experiences for a reason, and she now wants to help others.
Stephanie, who recently revealed she has been diagnosed with autism after nearly "drinking herself to death", continued: “And I believe I went through all that to help other people and one day I’d like to open my own rehab.
“I’ve got the experience, I’d just need a good team. At the moment, I want to focus on family stuff, but in the next two or three years that’s something I want to look at setting up, to give back and help people.
“When you’ve been to those depths of despair, to think of anyone else going through it, you just want to do anything to help, as most of the time it ends in death, or prison or institutions.

“Still, I’m a work in progress. I’m not perfect and I’m going to mess up, but I’m grateful because if it wasn’t for those experiences I wouldn’t be where I am with the knowledge I have and the lessons I’ve learned.”
