Emmerdale star Reece Dinsdale is no stranger to an explosive death after his character met his fateful ending on the ITV soap on Thursday night's episode.

Along with Emmerdale, Reece has also starred on Coronation Street, where he played Michelle Keegan's on-screen father.

The soap actor admitted he wouldn't have made his way on to the Cobbles if it hadn't have been for Michelle Keegan's impressive acting.

Reece, who played Joe McIntyre on the show, joined Coronation Street in 2008 after he was asked out of the blue to try out for the role of Michelle's on-screen father.

In an interview with the Daily Record in 2009, he admitted that the night before he got offered the role, he had been singing the Tina McIntyre actress' praises.

"My main reason for joining was 90 per cent because of Michelle", he told the Record.

"I was watching the show one night and I saw her [and] I turned to my wife and said, 'That girl is brilliant'."

"The next day my agent rang and asked if I fancied playing Tina's dad – it was meant to be."

However his admiration for his fellow co-star did make things a tad awkward on set after Reece told Michelle about his comments about her acting skills.

He said: "From the start we got on very well. I told her that tale and I think it embarrassed her".

"But we're good mates. She's a lovely girl and a talented actress. I wish her all the success."

The pair developed a close friendship on-screen during their two years working together, leaving Michelle particularly upset after he made the decision to leave the show in 2010.

She told Digital Spy at the time: "I'm really upset, I don't want him to do [it]. He thinks it's his time to go and it'll be very sad when he does.

"I love working with him, he's such a great character. I love him to bits, so it's going to be very, very sad."

After getting into serious debt with load shark Rick Neelan, Joe saw no way out other than to fake his own death so his wife, fan-favourite Gail Platt, would get the life insurance money.

He used the trip to Lake Windermere as an opportunity to set his plan in motion as he sailed out into the lake in his boat when a huge gust of wind smashed the mast into him and he fell to his watery grave.

Meanwhile on Emmerdale, his character Paul Ashdale died following a horror crash on Thursday night’s episode.
