Eastenders star Jake Wood saw tragic wrestler die in front of him in London ring

Eastenders star Jake Wood claims he witnessed the death of wrestling star Silver King from the ringside.

Jake, who plays Max Branning in the long-running soap, tweeted that he saw the wrestler die as he sat in the front row with his family at the Roundhouse in North-West London on Saturday night.

In an emotional social media post, he wrote: “Shockingly my family and I were front row at @roundhouseldn last night when legend of the wrestling world Silver King aka César Barrón lost his life in the ring.

"Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends, so sad #rip #silverking #roundhouse #luchalibra #nacholibra #cesarbarron”.

The wrestler collapsed on stage mid-performance in front of a packed audience at the Camden venue.

The 51-year-old former World Championship Wrestling (WCW) performer suffered a suspected heart attack during the bout, according to promoters.

Silver King was performing at the 'Greatest Show of Lucha Libre' with former WWE cruiserweight star Juventud Guerrera when tragedy struck.

In footage posted online by fans, the wrestler is seen struggling to his feet when his opponent appears to kick him in the side, as part of the show, before turning him over to pin him for the victory.

He is not seen to move again.

The referee waits around 90 seconds to check on him, as his opponent celebrates nearby unaware, before clocking on.

Within moments, medics are seen rushing into the ring to help the wrestler.

They perform CPR, before placing him into the recovery position in a bid to save his life.

The London Ambulance Service confirmed paramedics and two ambulances arrived five minutes after being called at 10.21pm, but the wrestler was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

The Roundhouse said that the circumstances into the wrestler’s death were being investigated, but Scotland Yard has confirmed the death is being treated as “non-suspicious”.

A Camden Council spokesman said: "We will begin investigating the circumstances related to this incident from Monday."

It is understood that officers will examine health and safety matters, as well as licensing.

A statement from WWE said: "WWE is saddened to learn that Lucha Libre legend and former WCW star Silver King has passed away at age 51.

"A champion luchador in his native Mexico, Silver King, real name César Cuauhtémoc González Barrón, entertained audiences across the globe, and was a standout in WCW’s Cruiserweight division in the late ’90s. Outside the ring, he appeared under a mask as the villainous Ramses in the popular 2006 comedy “Nacho Libre.”

"WWE extends its deepest condolences to Silver King’s family, friends and fans."
