On Wednesday's This Morning, Eamonn spoke about how tough the past few weeks have been as he struggles with chronic pain.

The 61 year old told viewers "Now folks there is something I want to talk to you about today. It has been a tough year for everybody – and it has been a tough week for me.

"I do not like complaining but I have been in a lot of pain.

"It has not been a good time and I have been in tears. And I have been in tears again here. Declan, my eldest boy, and Jenny, his partner, have announced that I will be a grandparent.

"Can you seriously believe that I would be a grandpa? I am far too young.

"I will get the catering all organised for the christening. I am very happy. I did not think I would be so happy. I got so emotional about it. I am so young and vibrant, and maybe it was because I've had a dour week. What lovely news."

Declan, 32, is Eamonn's son with his ex-wife Gabrielle, with whom he shares three kids.

Before his announcement, the TV presenter had teased his big news.

Before This Morning aired, he shared a picture of himself with his finger on his lips on Instagram.

In the caption, Eamonn wrote: “Ssshhh … need to tell you something but not until 11 o'clock live on This Morning when I will make an announcement.

"For a lot of us ,myself included, recent times have been tough but I have news that I know will make the future brighter.”

On Twitter he had said that he was “over the moon” about the news.

He wrote: “Can u keep a secret? Got something to tell u at 11 am on Wednesday's #ThisMorning. I hope you will be happy for me because I am over the Moon. It's even ,for the moment, made me forget my #ChronicPain – yes it's that good.”
