Kate Garraway and Derek Draper’s children Darcey, 15, and Billy, 11, have candidly spoken on their dad’s battle with coronavirus in the family’s documentary Finding Derek.
The powerful ITV film gave viewers an insight into Derek’s year long battle with COVID-19 after he was rushed to hospital in March 2020.
During one emotional moment, the GMB presenter’s two kids shared their fears that they could lose their dad and their hopes for him to come “back”.
Darcey said: “I’ve not really thought the worse, I’ve always said he’s going to get better, he’s going to get back – all of this stuff.
“They say that we’ve heard rumours he will get back, hopefully, before the end of next year but we really don’t know at all.”
Billy could then be seen discussing the Lego collection he received for his birthday and how it made him miss his dad.
He said: “Dad usually does Lego with me the most but since dad is not here… I’ve started to do it myself.”
Billy then described Derek as a “big kid”.
“He added: “I really want him back but we don’t know if he’s going to get better or not. So…”
