Mark Berry, better known as ‘Bez’ from the rock band Happy Mondays, had a nasty fall just days before the first episode of Dancing On Ice 2022. Bez, 57, was busy training with dance partner Angela Egan when he took a serious tumble on the ice.

The Happy Mondays member was left in a daze after reportedly hitting his head hard on the floor during rehearsals for ITV’s hit show.

The accident sent his helmet flying across the rink and prompted skating partner Angela, 35, to come rushing to his side.

Angela can be heard saying, “It’s a good job for your helmet, isn’t it?”

“Give yourself a minute,” she told the media personality, as he crouched on the ice holding his head.

Bez was visibly shaken up by what had happened.

A show source told the Mirror: “It was a terrifying moment and everyone’s hearts were in their mouths when he hit the ground.

“It goes to show how brutal this programme can be.”

It comes after Phillip Schofield spoke about the dangers that inexperienced celebs face in light of the stomach-flipping moment ahead of Sunday’s launch.

He told The Sun: “You have a rink that is full of essentially blades and we know how dangerous they can be and how deeply they can cut and how sharp they are.

“I’ve just watched a video of Bez on his second day fall over backwards so hard that his helmet flew off.

“Dancing On Ice is really dangerous. They really all risk everything for it.

“We’ve seen in the past that people do get hurt and of course you want to avoid that at all cost.

“I think we will be wrapping Bez up in bubble wrap that’s for sure.”

Bez was officially announced as a contestant on This Morning with Phillip and co-star Holly Willoughby, who will return as a presenting duo for the ice-based dance competition this year.

The celeb told the pair: “How I got picked I don’t know, because I was absolutely awful at the audition.”

Dancing on Ice returns this weekend as leading bookmaker Coral estimates that Strictly pro Brendan Cole is most likely to win the series at 3-1 odds.

Bez is an English percussionist, dancer, DJ and media personality, best known for being part of the rock bands Happy Mondays and Black Grape.

The star has remained good pals with Happy Mondays lead singer Shaun Ryder, who he often sits beside for Celebrity Gogglebox on Channel 4.

He was invited by Shaun to join the band shortly after it was first formed, appearing on stage as their de facto masco and becoming known for his signature combination of dancing and playing the maracas.

Dancing On Ice returns on Sunday at 6.30pm on ITV.
