Coronation Street’s Stephanie Beacham ‘confronted by hammer-wielding burglar’ at home

Coronation Street star Stephanie Beacham was confronted by a hammer-wielding intruder during a terrifying raid on her home, a court has heard.

The 75 year old soap star was at her £750,000 home in Bayswater, West London, when an intruder broke into her home and stole her jewellery, keys, cheque book, purse and mobile phone in the horrifying ordeal.

David Wilson, 56, appeared in Southwark Crown Court, charged with aggravated burglary and robbery in connection with the incident.

A three-day trial has now been set for February 8th.

According to the charge, he is accused of entering Stephanie’s home “as a trespasser” to steal her possessions, and “at the time of the commission of the burglary" he had with him a " weapon of offence, namely a hammer”.

He denies the charges of aggravated burglary and robbery for the intrusion which took place on September 25, 2022.

At a court hearing which took place on December 21st, Mr.Wilson entered a not guilty plea to the charges of aggravated burglary and robbery, with the case now due to go to trial next month.

Stephanie is expected to be called as a witness in the case.

Describing Stephanie as an “elderly victim”, Prosecutor Gregor McKinley urged the court to list the case for trial as soon as possible.

He said: “The Crown is pleased the case could come on in February, especially given the age and vulnerability of the victim.”

Ahead of the trial, Judge Nicholas Rimmer has remanded Wilson in custody, with a further pre-trial hearing scheduled for February 1st.

Prior to her time on the cobbles, Stephanie first achieved global stardom as Sable Colby in US drama Dynasty, where she shared the small screen with other Hollywood greats including Joan Collins and John Forsythe.

She also starred in the show’s popular spin-off series, The Colbys, where she took a starring role in 49 episodes.

Among her other accolades include a Golden Globe nomination, as well as roles in British TV favourites Bad Girls and Casualty before taking on the cobbles with her role as Ken Barlow’s love interest in Coronation Street, 14 years after she originally made her debut in the soap.

Additionally, Stephanie also showed off her dancing skills in the 2007 series of Strictly Come Dancing where she was partnered with professional dancer Vincent Simone.
