Paul Clement has blasted former Spurs, Aston Villa and England star Darren Bent as "overweight and lazy" in an astonishing Twitter rant.
The Reading boss was subjected to an opening day Championship defeat as Frank Lampard’s Derby scored a 94th-minute winner at the Madejski Stadium on Friday night.
It was the former Chelsea star’s first game in charge of the Rams – and a 2-1 win provided the perfect start.
Following the final whistle, Bent opened up on his time under Clement who managed The Rams during the 2015/16 season.
Clement’s time at Derby had started well, losing just once in 19 games between September and December, but after one win in seven he was sacked in February.
"It was inevitable he was going to crumble (at Derby)," Bent said on Sky Sports.
"Training had changed and his philosophy from pre-season had gone out the window because we weren’t getting the right results. And ultimately he didn’t really like confrontation."
Bent’s comments were circulated on social media, and Clement himself replied from his official account, saying: "I sense some bitterness here, which is normal if a player does not play much.
"It is never a difficult decision to leave out a player who is over weight and lazy."
Bent was released by Derby at the end of the 2017/18 season, having spent his last year out on loan at Burton Albion.
