Blake Lively will star in the film adaption of Colleen Hoover’s best-selling romance novel, It Ends With Us, alongside Justin Baldoni.

The 35 year old Gossip Girl alum will take on the lead role as the viral book comes to the big screen.

She'll star in the movie alongside Jane the Virgin's Justin Baldoni, who is also directing the film.

Blake, who is pregnant with her fourth child with husband Ryan Reynolds, will play redheaded florist Lily Bloom, while Justin will play doctor Ryle Kincaid.

The casting for Lily's first love Atlas has not yet been revealed.

The movie will be Blake's first role in three years, after her 2020 film, The Rhythm Section.

As news of her casting broke, she shared a snap of herself on her Instagram story, in which she had traded in her blonde hair for brunette/ red tresses.

She gazed off camera in the snap, but didn't mention the film or her casting as Lily.

The novel was released in 2016 but earned a huge new fan base through the #BookTok TikTok community.

It was the top-selling print book in 2022, remaining on the New York Times Best Seller List for over 90 weeks.

It follows a young woman called Lily Bloom, who sets up a new life and florist business after moving to Boston.

There she meets neurosurgeon Ryle, but it's not long before Atlas Corrigan – her first love and a link to the past she left behind – comes back into her life.

The book's sequel, It Starts with Us, was released in October 2022.

Author Coleen excitedly announced the casting in a video on her Instagram and gushed that Blake is her "dream" Lily.

She said: "Our Lily is going to be played by Blake Lively. Blake Lively, y'all. She's my dream Lily."

As for Justin's character, the writer said: "When I first met Justin Baldoni, who is directing the film for It Ends with Us, I immediately wanted him to be Ryle.

"I just thought that he had what it takes to play that character. The good news is he's gonna be Ryle. So we have our Ryle and our Lily."

She added that the two stars "have what it takes to bring these characters to life."
