Amy Schumer accused of ‘bullying’ Nicole Kidman with now-deleted Instagram post

Nicole Kidman speaks on spy thriller ‘Special Ops: Lioness’

Amy Schumer is facing criticism for a now-deleted post on Instagram in which she made fun of Nicole Kidman’s appearance at the US Open.

The comedian, 42, made fun of the Oscar winner, 56, who attended the Saturday women’s singles final tournament between Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka.

In the image, Kidman was snapped watching the match while wearing a pink dress, as she stared wide-eyed and straight-ahead with her hand curled beneath her chin.

Schumer found the post to look robotic, and shared in the caption of the image (via Daily Mail): “This how human sit.”

However, many didn’t appreciate the remark, taking to the comments section to accuse her of unfairly bullying the star.

“Are you cyberbullying Oscar and Emmy winner Nicole Kidman right now?” one person wrote.

“Wow so mean! I expected one of my favorite comediennes to have more respect for other people’s feelings than this,”another added.

“Have always thought you were funny, seen all your specials, movies, read your book. But this selective mean girl public trolling stuff? No thanks,” another wrote.

Following the critiques, Schumer then took to social media again to share an apology that came off sarcastically.

“I want to apologize to all the people I hurt posting a photo of Nicole Kidman and alluding to her being an alien,” she wrote.

“I will be asking the cast of that 70s show to write letters advocating for my forgiveness,” she added, alluding to letters Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis wrote on Danny Masterson’s behalf ahead of his sentencing for rape.

That post has also since been deleted.

Kidman has not responded to Schumer’s comments.

She was also later pictured at the match with a smile on her face as she sat with her arms crossed in front of her and one leg propped over the other one.

The actress has been criticised in the past for poses and actions in public, most notably during the 2017 Oscars when she was caught on camera clapping with her palms but trying to keep her fingers from touching one another, spreading them out and at an odd angle.

She later shared that the strange clap was because she was trying to protect the rings she was wearing.

“It was really difficult because I had a huge ring on which was not my own, but was absolutely gorgeous and I was terrified of damaging it,” she told Australian radio personality Kyle Sandilands at the time.

“It was really awkward and I was like gosh, I want to clap. I don’t want to not be clapping, which is worse, right–’why isn’t Nicole clapping?’” she added.
