Coronation Street star Alan Igbon has died “peacefully” aged 68, his niece has confirmed.
The soap actor, who also starred in Brookside, was best known for playing Tony Stewart, the estranged father of Jason Grimshaw – played by Ryan Thomas – in the ITV programme in 2003.
Alan’s niece confirmed the sad news as she shared a tribute to him on Facebook on Monday 4 January.
She wrote: “Early December 2020 my mums brother Alan Igbon my uncle passed away peaceful.

“He is well known for being an actor in Boys from the black stuff, Scum, GBH, Coronation st, Brookside and many more. R.i.e.p xxx.” [sic]
Alan’s former Brookside co-star Louis Emerick also spoke out to share his own tribute to the star following his death.
Louis said: “Another sad loss, #AlanAdjIgbon..Riep Adj. Boys from the blackstuff,Scum,Gbh,Brooky, Corrie,Adj graced them all.
“A very underrated actor,Adj was an inspiration to me,he and @PaulBarberActor made me realise 'yes it can be done'. Goodbye Adj, never forgotten.”
Meanwhile, fans continued to share their own tributes to the talented actor.
One said: “Alan was a fabulous actor & I can recall him in all those shows…”
Another added: “Grew up watching him, fantastic actor XXRIP XX”.
And a third said: “I had watched the entire BFTBS over Christmas. So sad to hear this, he was such a talent. RIP Alan Igbon”.
