A Place In The Sun presenter Scarlette Douglas may have the dream job travelling to hot countries to film for the show, but the 33-year-old admitted it’s not always happy times behind-the-scenes. The property expert discussed the sacrifices that come with working overseas for a lengthy period.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, the Channel 4 star said: “The travelling, it does really take its toll.

“I don’t have kids like Laura [Hamilton], Jasmine [Harman], Ben [Hillman] and Jonnie [Irwin], I’m sure its even harder for them.

“It is hard being away from family, you know, six weeks at a time or missing out on best friends’ weddings and missing out on birthdays and stuff because you’re away.

“I’d say that’s probably the hardest bit is not being with the family all the time.”

Scarlette also discussed how she felt being away from her musician boyfriend Lyndrik Xela, who at the time of our chat, had a busy gigging schedule.

“He’s having the best time, so I guess it’s not as difficult when we’re both away working,” she explained.

“I miss him when he’s away and vice versa, it’s still hard but we FaceTime and things like that.

“We get through it, we get by.”

Despite the downside of missing loved ones, Scarlette said it was “priceless” helping house hunters find their dream home.

The host joined the property show back in 2015.

Last month, she fronted Love It or List It with her brother Stuart as part of Black to Front day.

Steeping into Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer’s shoes, Scarlette and Stuart helped homeowners decide whether it’s time to renovate their properties or sell up.

Discussing her future, the presenter said she’d love to front her own show, likes James Corden’s Late Late Show.

“That’s a definite,” she said excitedly.

“I feel like… James Corden if you’re ever off sick, give me a shout because I would love to front that show, it’s brilliant.

“I love the States as it is, it’s fun, it’s energetic, it’s different.

“I come from an entertainment background, so as much as people know me for property my other passion is definitely entertainment.

“Singing, dancing, acting, the film world and the fashion world, all that sort of stuff, I love it.”

She added of the host: “He’s very funny.”

A Place In The Sun continues today at 3pm on Channel 4.
