Watch Solo: A Star Wars Story's surprise return of a classic villain

Major spoilers ahead for anyone who hasn’t yet seen Solo: A Star Wars Story.

With Solo: A Star Wars Story finally about to be released on DVD at the end of this month, now’s your chance to re-live one of the biggest shocks of the film, as an exclusive clip of the film has been released.

The young Han Solo spin-off film had a shock twist up its sleeve when it revealed the leader of the Crimson Dawn crime syndicate that Paul Bettany’s Dryden Vos and Emilia Clarke’s Qi’ra are involved in was none other than Darth Maul himself.

Now you can watch that moment again here:

That’s right, the horn-headed figure with a double-ended lightsaber has returned to the franchise’s cinematic universe, despite being sliced in half by Obi-Wan Kenobi in The Phantom Menace – and we’ve already explained how that cameo was possible.

In a nutshell, Maul somehow survived his injuries and lives on through animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars – helped along by a pair of robotic legs, which you can hear in the clip above – and colliding the cartoons and cinematic universe in such a major way was certainly a bold move.

But not as bold as Darth Maul actor Ray Park, who revealed over the weekend that he’d actually been secretly spoiling his cameo for months before it aired in cinemas.

“I may have deleted a bunch, but if you go back and check all my Instagram posts, I was secretly telling everyone, but no-one knew,” he teased.

Solo: A Star Wars Story sees a young Han join a gang of galactic smugglers, and meet his future best pal Chewbacca in the process, as they attempt a daring mission to pay off a gangster. Digital Spy gave it a glowing review, which you can read here.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is out on September 24 on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download.
