Sarkar’s re-edited version to be screened from today

Sarkar's re-edited version will be showcased across screens, starting Friday evening. Directed by AR Murugadoss, the movie stars Vijay, Keerthy Suresh, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and Radha Ravi among others.

Sarkar continues to dominate the box office amidst controversies.

In the wake of growing criticism, the team of Tamil film Sarkar has decided to make some changes to the Vijay starrer. In an application to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the team has requested to omit some scenes and dialogues from the movie.

“The applicant of the film was granted “UA” certificate. The applicant desired to exclude/include the following scenes voluntarily from his/her film after the film’s certification. The application was entertained under Rule 33,” said CBFC in its response.

Protests erupted across Tamil Nadu over certain scenes which showed state-provided freebies being thrown in the fire. Members of the ruling party also took objection to the female villain’s being called “Komalavalli”. The actual name of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Jayalalithaa was Komalavalli.

“Visuals such as the throwing of freebies in fire given by government like mixie and grinder have been omitted. The name Komala from the full name Komalavalli (wherever it occurs) have been muted. It has also been removed from the corresponding subtitle,” CBFC said.

Besides, the CBFC stated, “Muted the dialogues ‘Podhuppanniththurai’ and ’56 varusham’. The corresponding words in subtitle also removed.”

Sarkar’s re-edited version will be showcased across screens, starting Friday evening. The film is an intense political drama, which also has references to political developments in Tamil Nadu.

Along with Vijay, the AR Murugadoss directorial also stars Keerthy Suresh, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and Radha Ravi among others in pivotal roles. It was released on 3000 screens across the globe and garnered Rs 30 crore on its opening day.
