Remember that scripted project that comedian Katherine Ryan was working on for Netflix earlier this year? Well, it’s only gone and got picked up.
It’s been confirmed that Katherine will write, executive producer and star in her first scripted series The Duchess, which will stream in six 30-minute episodes on Netflix.
The Duchess will follow a “fashionably disruptive” single mother living in London whose daughter Olive is described as her greatest love. It will follow her powerful and problematic choices as she weighs up whether to have a second child with her greatest enemy – who also happens to be Olive’s dad.
If that wasn’t enough Katherine Ryan comedy goodness for you, the comedian will also be returning to Netflix to star in a second comedy special as she brings her sold-out 2018 UK tour show Glitter Room to the service.
The hour-long special will be recorded at The Belasco Theater in Los Angeles on December 11 and will premiere on Netflix in 2019.
Earlier this year, Katherine told Digital Spy that she was writing a “scripted project” for Netflix and added that the world of scripted comedy is one that she wanted to pursue.
“If this one doesn’t end up getting made, I’ll write another one,” she told us. “I really am grateful to have my special streaming on Netflix, and I hope that it goes that way.
“Comedians just want to tell their story in any way that they can. But who knows? I’m a pretty bad actress when I’m playing anyone but myself.”
As well as her new Netflix projects, Katherine also features alongside Jimmy Carr as the host of Comedy Central’s Your Face or Mine and also stars as a judge on Comedy Central’s Roast Battle UK too.
