Grey’s Anatomy star Jake Borelli has hinted at a big episode for his character Dr. Levi Schmidt and love interest Dr. Nico Kim.
Levi and Nico (played by Alex Landi) are at the centre of the medical drama’s first same-sex storyline between two male doctors, and speaking to Digital Spy, Borelli described next week’s episode (at US pace) as “insane” and jaw-dropping for them.
“The midseason finale, which airs on the 15th, is insane,” he said. “When I read it at the table read, my jaw literally dropped and things between us certainly heat up! I’m not going to say whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing, but there is some classic Grey’s Anatomy drama coming, especially between Alex and I.
“I’m very excited to watch it, frankly! I’ve been waiting!”
Borelli – who joined the show at the start of the 14th season – also said that it has been “amazing” to be part of the storyline, calling it a “personal milestone”.
“It feels amazing, honestly,” he shared. “Grey’s Anatomy is such an iconic show that’s been around for 15 years. They’ve had a lot of LGBTQ relationships on the show like Arizona Robbins and Callie Torres and that relationship was so nuanced and pushed the dial forward for the LGBTQ community so much. And now we’re at the very beginning of a new gay relationship.
“I’m really excited to dive just as deep as they did, and I know that this is the best show to do that on.”
Two episodes ago in ‘Flowers Grow Out of My Grave’, Levi and Nico shared their first kiss. Following that episode’s broadcast in the US, Borelli came out publicly in a heartfelt Instagram post.
Explaining why he was inspired to write the post, the actor said: “I realised that over the past couple of months filming this that this story is bigger than me now.
“I’ve been out to my friends and family on a personal level for such a long time, and I was starting to see that this is the next step. I’ve gained the ability to speak on a larger platform, and to me it was the next step. It just felt right, and we’re in a period of time right now where I value honesty and authenticity, and I just wanted to live the life that I respect from other people.”
Grey’s Anatomy airs on ABC in the US and on Sky Living and NOW TV in the UK.
