Deadpool 2 will re-gift a censored cut for Christmas re-release, but X-Men: Dark Phoenix is delayed

X-Men fans must have been a bit naughty and nice this year because the Christmas stockings are a real mixed bag.

On the holly jolly side, Ryan Reynolds teased fans on Twitter on Friday that a Deadpool Christmas movie co-starring Fred Savage was in the works. The photo parodies Savage’s classic movie The Princess Bride.

According to Bloomberg, that’s not quite what is actually happening. The studio is actually readying a new family-friendlier cut of Deadpool 2 that tones down the violence and swearing to achieve a PG-13 rating.

There will apparently also be new footage inserted, which would explain the Fred Savage cameo that Ryan Reynolds was promoting on Twitter. The publication notes that Fox hasn’t officially announced anything beyond another Deadpool movie hitting US cinemas on December 21, so the details could change.

A Super Duper Cut of Deadpool 2 has previously been released for home video, with the major selling point being that it changed the theatrical ending of the film.

Now, for the news that’ll have you shouting Bah Humbug! 20th Century Fox has bumped Alita: Battle Angel from that December 21 date to February 14, 2019 — which was the date reserved for X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

The domino effect means Dark Phoenix then moves all the way to June 7, 2019, despite premiering its trailer just this past week. There’s more fallout in the X-universe as well (via The Hollywood Reporter)…

The long-delayed Gambit was supposed to be out on June 7, so now it will be pushed all the way back to March 13, 2020. Thankfully, New Mutants hasn’t been impacted and is still scheduled to be out on August 2, 2019.

The current cut of Deadpool 2 is available on digital download, DVD and Blu-ray.
