Michael Soosairaj’s brace helped Jamshepur FC (JFC) humble FC Goa 4-1 in a Hero ISL fixture at JRD Tata Sports Complex here on Thursday.
Soosairaj scored the first two for the host before Emerson Gomes de Moura (Memo) and Sumeet Passi fired two late strikes to secure a convincing win. Mourtada Fall scored for the visitor.
Looking for more dynamism, JFC coach Cesar Ferrando Ferrando made five changes to the side that played out a 2-2 draw against Kerala Blasters in the previous outing. Goa went for continuity, making the only change for the suspended striker Ferran Corominass.
The host could have gone ahead in the fourth minute but for a fine save by the Goa ’keeper Mohammad Nawaz, who flew to his left to clear a Sergio Cidoncha free-kick. Local boy Gaurav Mukhi also tested the Goa defence on at least three occasions but failed to find the mark.
Fall had to make a number of clearances as JFC kept pushing for the breakthrough. The host earned three corners in a span of two minutes and the one in the 17th minute bore fruit when Soosairaj met an assist from Pratik Choudhary and finished it with aplomb.
The visitor restored parity in the 33rd minute when a long free-kick from Hugo Boumous was chipped onward by Edu Bedia. Fall made the most of the assist to finish with a diving header.
The home team was more reformed after the break and regained the lead in the 50th minute, thanks to the Cidoncha–Soosairaj combination. The Tamil Nadu import latched on to a onward pass from the Spaniard and made a darting run to tap the ball past Nawaz.
JFC made it 3-1 in the 77th minute when the Brazilian midfielder Memo finished a powerful drive from top of the box after a corner. The host sealed the win in the 79th as Passi made the most of an assist from Spaniard Carlos Calvo .
