Debate between Kalava, YSRCP leader put off

Mild tension prevailed at Rayadurg town and Gopalapuram leading to the imposition of Section 144 on Saturday to prevent any untoward turn of events in the backdrop of the proposed debate between Minister Kalava Srinivasulu and constituency YSRCP leader Ramachandra Reddy on the alleged corruption and stalled development in Rayadurgam.

The two leaders challenged each other and September 16 was fixed as the date and Gopalapuram the venue for the debate.

The police swooped on the residence of Mr. Ramachandra Reddy on Friday night besides imposing Section 144 in the Rayadurg constituency. Its impact was seen from early Saturday and the debate was forced to be put off as the police denied permission to it.

Mr. Srinivasulu told the media that the debate had nothing to with the government or the party, and it was “personal”. He said he would welcome the debate at any point of time and was ready to provide required escort and protection to Mr. Reddy to reach the venue and participate in it.

The YSRCP cadres resenting the detention of Mr. Reddy alleged the Minister was afraid of participating in the debate and managed to scuttle it with police support.
