DMK president M.K. Stalin welcomed the meeting between Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, saying the view of Mr. Gandhi that all opposition parties should work together to defeat the BJP was very important.
He stressed the need for the opposition parties to come together against the BJP government, which, he said, was depriving the States of their autonomy.
Former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said the call for the creation of a strong front against the BJP should be appreciated. To a question, he said he was also in favour of the Opposition standing united against the BJP in Tamil Nadu. “Obviously, minus the AIADMK factions,” he added.
CPI(M) State secretary K. Balakrishnan said there were no two views on the need for a united front against the BJP in the country. “It is also the objective of the Left parties. But we have been saying that an alliance should be formed taking into consideration the ground realities of every State,” he added.
