Jobs for locals in KIA unit, says Minister

Industries Minister N. Amarnath Reddy and Industrial Infrastructure Corporation special representative Preetham Reddy visited the KIA Motors car manufacturing unit coming up at Penukonda in the district on Thursday.

After inspecting the progress of work, the Minister said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would launch the first commercial car from the unit in 2019.

The State government was duty-bound to provide jobs to the locals in the factory and was working in that direction, he said.

All the eligible youth were being trained in the Skill Development Centre at Penukonda with the help of the State government and the KIA Motors and they would find jobs in the company.

The Chief Minister was concentrating on providing succour to the drought-affected in possible ways and industrialise the Rayalaseema region, he said.

During the Congress regime Volkswagen had shown interest in setting up plant in Andhra Pradesh but later left for Gujarat, the Minister said.
