Fans have been waiting for Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes to become “official” for years. The pop singers recently made their romance “officially official” with the single, “Señorita,” creating the hottest duo of the moment. With their combined fame, how do the lovebirds manage a little relationship autonomy?
Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes have known each other for years
If you rewind back to 2014, Camila Tweeted about “Shawnyboy,” causing fans to lose their minds over a possible Camila-Shawn romance. A year later, and a few vague Instagram posts in between, the pair appeared at the MTV Video Music Awards after-party with pictures that prove they had chemistry way back then.
A month later, Cabello and Mendes spurred more dating rumors at The iHeartRadio Music Festival. Mendes told E! News they weren’t dating at that time. “We can’t do that! I mean, Spanish and Canadian don’t really mix.”
The release of their music collaboration, “I Know What You Did Last Summer” dropped soon after, and by November of 2015, hook-up rumors swirled left and right. Since then, social media flirtation and denial have been constant, but we’re not mad about it.
Finally, Cabello posted the first “love” post on Instagram in February 2015, with “Señorita” rolling out in June to an unsurprised, but celebratory, fanbase. The rest is history.
Cabello and Mendes recently took their relationship to the next level
Cabello and Mendes wandered Aahs in West Hollywood, California, this week. The only thing different about this outing compared to all others? Each donned a Halloween mask to shield their faces, according to E! News.
Mendes, who wore a blue T-shirt and black pants, chose a demented baby mask, while Cabello wore a unicorn head to highlight her black floral dress and strappy heels. The couple was aware of the paparazzi and posed for a picture.
Some question whether Cabello and Mendes are dating for publicity
A video of Cabello and Mendes kissing surfaced last week, leaving some to question whether their relationship is real or a publicity stunt. An interviewer asked Mendes at LAX on September 18 about their relationship. “We’re definitely not a publicity stunt,” Mendes replied.
Cabello recently told Elle about the rumors, “People can say whatever they want to say. They can speculate, but at the same time, we are going to live our own lives, enjoy it, and fall for each other like nobody is watching.”
She continued, “I mean, I love him. We have always connected; we have the best time together.”
