Roman Abramovich’s health club hit by serial thief

SEBASTIAN SHAKESPEARE: Roman Abramovich’s health club popular with Chelsea’s Premier League stars is hit by serial thief who’s been stealing watches and money from lockers

Members of the Chelsea Health Club and Spa are alarmed to discover they have a serial thief in their midst.

The exclusive gym adjoins Stamford Bridge football ground and is popular with Chelsea’s players and staff. Former players Frank Lampard and John Terry are both regulars, while Chelsea legend Didier Drogba once bade a tearful goodbye to the club from inside the spa’s plush surroundings.

Now watches and money have been stolen from lockers, and patrons have been told to be on the look out. ‘We are working with the police and the security team,’ deputy general manager Jake Helm writes in a missive to members. ‘Please help us by being particularly vigilant and do alert us to suspicious or loitering behaviour.

‘We are working with the security team and police to identify the perpetrator.’

The word from our man in the jacuzzi is they’re worried it’s an inside job.

‘Apparently it is thought that the thief has a master key,’ I’m told. ‘Members are all very jumpy. Given that some of the Chelsea players have lockers there, I would assume that their watches are quite nifty.’

The Chelsea Health Club is one of London’s more exclusive spas. Annual membership runs at £2,280 plus a £450 joining fee.

The gym was also the setting for earpiece-gate, when former manager Jose Mourinho sat out a touchline ban for Chelsea’s quarter final with Bayern Munich (satellite image of the grounds)

Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich reputedly keeps his own private changing room and sauna within the building.

The gym was also the setting for earpiece-gate, when former manager Jose Mourinho sat out a touchline ban for Chelsea’s quarter final with Bayern Munich.

Watching the game from inside the health club, UEFA bigwigs accused him of feeding information to his assistant Rui Faria, who was on the touchline, allegedly hiding an earpiece under his hat.

Chelsea Health Club admit there is an active investigation but declined to comment.
