Last night, Harper’s BAZAAR cover star Cardi B became the first solo female artist to win a Grammy in the Best Rap Album category for her project Invasion Of Privacy.
Perhaps as part of the celebration, her husband, Offset (of the rap super trio Migos) took to Instagram to tease never-before-seen footage of events leading up to the birth of their daughter, Kulture Kiari Cephus, last summer. In the post, viewers see Offset laying down music in the studio, video chatting in a car, performing on stage to a large audience, and then the video quickly cuts to the hospital on July 10, 2018.
Offset stands on Cardi’s left side and watches his wife, who is visibly and audibly in some major labor pains, give birth to their daughter. After Cardi screams, the teaser video zooms in on Offset (who looks visibly concerned) and transitions to a pink background that simply states “2-22-19,” which is the release date of Migos’ forthcoming album Culture III and documentary.
Cardi and Offset, secretly married in September 2017, months before the “Bodak Yellow” rapper confirmed her pregnancy in April 2018. In December, the couple appeared to undergo a rough patch and Cardi said she and the Migos member are “not together anymore.” However, that seems to have changed as of last night, when she brought Offset to the Grammys and called him her husband onstage.
The birth video wasn’t the only family moment the Cephuses shared, as early this morning, Cardi tweeted a precious video of Kulture, now seven months old, in a baby walker. “After a week of only saying papa !She saying mama! Happy 7 months Kulture ! We love you @OffsetYRN @HennessyCB #michellemelo,” she captioned the video which showed her teary-eyed with her hand over her mouth.
Cardi was so overwhelmed by her win at the Grammys last night that she told her man that she couldn’t breathe. “Oh my goodness, um, listen, I’m sorry, I just, wooo, the nerves are so bad. Maybe I need to start smoking weed,” she joked to the crowd.
She began to thank those closest to her, including her daughter Kulture. “I’m not just saying thank you because she’s my daughter… We was like, We have to get this album done so I could shoot these videos while I’m still not showing and it was very long nights.”
She also thanked her Quality Control label mates, the Migos, and specifically Offset, when she said: “You, husband, thank you. Nah, seriously, cause he was like, you’re going to do this album, girl. We’re gonna have this baby, and we’re gonna make this album. And thank you so much, everybody.”
