Manchester United began their Premier League campaign as they meant to go on against Leicester City.
The Red Devils opened the scoring less than three minutes into the new season as World Cup winner Paul Pogba confidently converted from the spot following a handball by Daniel Amartey.
Claude Puel’s Foxes – and James Madison in particular – had the better of the chances in the first half but faded in the second when United went into ‘Mourinho mode’ to seal an significant win at Old Trafford.

And it ultimately proved decisive after Jamie Vardy gave Leicester a late lifeline.
Here’s how the players rated…
Made a fabulous save from Maddison, although his distribution was patchy.
How is he still at United? No wonder Jose gets frustrated on transfers.
Welcome return to favour, looks a class act with pace and power. United’s best defender.
Still prone to mistakes and lacks physical strength. Must seize this season.
Looked in good shape after his tough pre-season, had a solid enough game and netted.
MotM. Not necessarily the best player but definitely the story of the match.
Busy and athletic in midfield, confident on the ball and had a promising game.
Booked. Impressive debut. Did the simple things well and showed good energy.
Flashes of skill and invention in midfield United needed to see more from him.
Started from the left which is not his best position but did win the penalty.
Still looked a bit sluggish as he started through the middle. Maybe a World Cup hangover.
Lukaku, for Rashford, 67 mins, 6
No chance with the penalty but made some smart saves to thwart United.
Booked. Conceded early penalty for handball with his arm outstretched. Poor.
A huge presence in Leicester’s defence and gave Rashford little change.
Was a United target for much of the summer and did not put a foot wrong.
Showing real career progress now, good pace and energy down the left.
Put in a real shift in midfield as he never stopped running and tackling.
Nice short passing and runs but also needs some more end product.
Chased down and tackled as the travelling fans enjoyed his midfield work rate.
Excellent start to his Leicester career, caused all sorts of problems going forward.
Good pace and caused problems, switching between both flanks. Big prospect.
Good movement and looked dangerous, realising his potential now at Leicester.
