Chris Martin confesses he felt ‘worthless’ after Gwyneth split

Chris Martin confesses he felt ‘completely worthless’ after split from Gwyneth Paltrow… as his Coldplay bandmates admit they were prepared for the ‘worse case scenario’

Chris Martin has admitted he was ‘a mess’ after splitting from his wife Gwyneth Paltrow in 2014 following ten years of marriage.

The Coldplay frontman struggled after the A-list couple, who are parents to Apple, now 14, and Moses, 12, famously announced they were consciously uncoupling, leading Chris’ bandmates to fear for his wellbeing.

Speaking in a new documentary film Coldplay: A Head Full Of Dreams Chris, 41, said while the band toured their album Mylo Xyloto he felt ‘completely worthless and nothing to anybody.’

‘I was just like, “I’m a mess”, really, because I can’t enjoy the great things around me. Then, of course, I went through a break-up with Gwyneth. Listen, I’m never going to moan, I’m grateful for everything, but it was pretty touch and go.’

Chris’s bandmates Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion along with their former manager Phil Harvey were concerned for their friend, with Phil confessing: ‘Your mind can go to the worst case scenario. ‘I was worried about him to the extent that I was just really glad to get a text in the morning just to know he was OK.’

Both Chris and Gwyneth have moved on, and while Chris is currently dating Fifty Shades Of Grey actress Dakota Johnson, 29, Gwyneth, 46, married American TV director Brad Falchuk in September.

In January Gwyneth told PeopleStyle she could not wait to be a bride as she considers this her first wedding, after eloping with Chris in 2003.

‘I’m excited about everything! I’ve never had a wedding before. So even though I’m 45, I sort of feel like a 21-year-old,’ she said.

‘I get it. I think it’s important to have figures of ridicule and I don’t mind being one of them, admits Chris, adding that his anxiety and lack of confidence in his talents have plagued him.

‘I think everything we’ve done is s**t. That’s why I keep trying to do new stuff. But that’s my gut feeling. That’s what fires you up to do the next thing,’ he explained.

A Head Full of Dreams hits ‘limited’ UK theaters November 14 and the behind-the-scenes movie starts streaming November 16 on Amazon Prime.
